Last year I posted about the parents that annoyed me at the youth baseball games and how the snacks we have to provide at dinnertime get on my last nerve. But I have to say that Youngest has been on the best team ever this fall. And between the three boys and lots of teams, this is big!
First, the moms all introduced themselves to each other the first day, one by one as they joined the bleachers. Next, the coaches (volunteer dads) are firm but kind to the boys. last spring the coaches were sarcastic and never spoke to the parents after the games. Third, all the boys are friendly and as mature as possible in the dugout (in the spring one of the coach's son was one of the worst behaved boys ever).
Plus, when Youngest was sick and showed up to take the team picture (but had to miss the game) he told his teammates that he even had to cancel his b-day party.....a mom drove over his snack and a card signed by all the boys and the coaches. And, this is the first time that coaches approached Hubs and said they noticed that Youngest has a strong arm and would he like to pitch (former coaches only had their own son pitch). (Hubs coaches Eldest).
So yes, there is a snack schedule, but it has been low-key and the niceness of the parents and team rise above my beef about not needing a snack at 7:30 or 9:00 p.m.
So, I am happy to report that this is really the best fall ball ever and have no snark or stories to report. Except for this little tidbit........
One mom brought Chick-Fil-A nuggets for a snack for her own son right after they practiced one day before a game started. She fed them by hand to her son's mouth because she told him he had been touching the ball and his hand may be dirty. But that's all I have!

I LOVED Dash's spring baseball coach - and we had him for the last two years. Fall ball....not so much. But, at least the parents seem normal and one of the parents is one that I like and run into in a number of different places.
But seriously, feeding the kid by hand? Isn't that why all the moms have antibacterial gel or wipes in their purse? ;)
What? Hand-feeding a kid that age? Hasn't she hear do Wet Wipes?
"of" Wet Wipes sorry!
Hee-hee! This mom in question has this son who is going to turn age 9, and a daughter aged 4. She was feeding the daughter Chick-Fil-A chicken soup by hand (I even found it strange for a 4 year old). Then it was after a practice that son came over and was excited to see she had nuggets and then she fed them to him saying she didn’t want him to touch the food. This is her son’s 1st time on a team—unusual around here, and I can tell she is very much protective. But she and her hubs and her son are very, very nice. You can see I am affected by some major bratty-ness that occurred last time.
That is so great. Makes all that time you spend together bearable.
The feeding by hand - she needs to stop that. That is just STRANGE!
Anytime a group activity works out it is a great thing. When it doesn't, it's a disaster.
what you don't hand feed your kids...what kind of mom are you...giggle!
I want to join that team! They should all be like that.
Sadly (or happily) the bleachers are quite quiet for us as well this year.
The chicken nugget thing, well, I'm pretty anal myself, when it comes to dirty hands, but all I could picture is her peeling them first before she dropped them in his mouth.
A little dirt don't hurt.
A little bit of dirt never hurt anyone.
I'm a handwashing fanatic at home making sure they wash when they get off the school bus and before meals. But for years the boys have eaten snacks given by parents after a game of throwing the baseball around.....I am wondering how she is handling things now that her son has played baseball for several weeks. I am passing out snacks tomorrow--gonna check it out.
