“Cereal”.
(silence)
“Cereal”.
(silence)
(then a little louder):
“I want cereal”.
When my now 9th grade son was a toddler, he’d stand by my side of the bed on Saturday and Sunday at about 5:45 a.m. and quietly say those words until my eyelids stared open long enough to wake up. We quickly taught him to recognize when a clock turned 7:00. When he got a little bigger we quickly learned to set a cup of milk in the fridge at our bedtime and a bowl of dry cereal ready for him to self-serve in the a.m. That worked out fine.
Now that he is in high school the bus picks him up the street at 6:30 a.m. and he is the first one up in the morning.
Sometimes he will have a bagel but most weekday mornings it’s cereal.
We are up to at least 4 gallons of milk a week for the three boys.
This was a few days ago.
But now we are down to 6 boxes.

I'm betting the Lucky Charms went first.
We went through 8 gallons of milk a week in our heyday, with all four boys in growth spurts.
My Goth has just discovered Lucky Charms, at the ripe old age of 16. He just does NOT understand why I won't buy them for him.
LOL - my brother, at 41, still MUST have a bowl of cereal before he goes to bed.
He's quite slim, so I'm guessing he's onto something there :-)
We do cereal over here. So convenient in the morning. But Captain Crunch only makes an appearance when we're on vacation. (And yes, I'm the one who buys it. Love the stuff. Deprived as a child and all that).
Love the Cap'n Crunch too. But rips the heck up of the roof of the mouth, doesn't it?
I checked the pantry. Both boxes of Lucky Charms are still there. I was just asked about Fruit Loops. Sorry kid, Kelloggs has not been on sale.
I'm a Mini-Wheats girl. Used to love those commercials of how the adult likes the wheat but the kid in me likes the sweet. Eldest would go tap-tap inside of me when I ate them when he was in utero.
Cereal is god's gift to both adults and kids alike, especially when they reside within the same person! While kids' youthful bodies can process cereal as one of the 4 basic food groups, perfectly acceptable as a meal unto itself (with or without milk), adults view cereal as more of an "I've had all the REQUIRED food I'm going to eat today, but I just need a little something more...I know, I'll have some cereal!" It just makes us feel good inside, both literally and metaphorically. As I get older, and as my a.m. schedule does not allow me to eat anything I can't munch while driving 80 on the 101, cereal is reserved for those special weekend mornings and evenings when I just want to chomp down on something soft AND crunchy, wheaty AND sweety, easy AND filling on the tummy. If I had kids, no matter what their age, it would be Lucky Charms and whatever else I saw in that pantry and they'd be good to go! My favorite? Frosted Mini-Wheats all the way, sister!
I wish my kids ate more cereal. They love toaster waffles, which luckily they are all capable of making without my help.
Cute! This makes me miss Cap'n Crunch...that used to be my favorite. I haven't had it in YEARS!!
Nate is an early riser too. 5:30 or 6 most mornings. I think we're going to get him a digital clock and do what you did!
For some reason, by boys don't like to eat cereal for breakfast, it is like their stomachs are not awake yet. But, then? They would eat it all day, the rest of the day.
And we are currently going through 3 gallons a week with no teen boys...yet.
Whoa. Whoa.
I heart cereal...I would eat it for dinner sometimes! Especially if Rick is traveling...then I fix my boys' mac n' cheese and I eat a big bowl of cereal w/ peanut butter on the side :)
I love how you store your copious amounts of cereal...I see that in our future!
It's hard to keep up with the cereal. Like Ash, I have brothers (in their 40s and 50s) who have a bowl of cereal every night before bed.
Their bones will far outlast mine.
Whoa whoa! 4 gallons of milk!!
I think it might be time to invest in a cow.
How school is going great for y'all. We need to catch up!
